Canyon vs Schlucht

gorge / chasm

A Canyon is a deep, narrow gorge with steep rock walls, typically carved out by a river. Schlucht is the more general term and can also be used without these typical features. Both words are therefore possible for such a river landscape, but Canyon describes it more precisely.
