College vs Universität
university
'die Universität' and 'das College' can both refer to educational institutions after or alongside school. In German, 'Universität' is the normal word for a higher education institution with study programs and research. 'College' is used mainly for institutions in English-speaking countries or for special educational institutions such as a 'Studienkolleg' (preparatory college). In some countries, 'College' can even refer more to a school. Learners may confuse the words because both are connected with learning after school. When talking about Germany and a normal university course of study, 'Universität' is usually more precise.
