Creek vs Fluss

river / flow

'der Fluss' and 'der Creek' both refer to a natural body of water in which water flows. 'der Fluss' is the normal German word for a larger flowing body of water. 'der Creek' usually means a small river or stream and, in German, often sounds associated with North America or Australia. Learners may confuse the words because a creek can also be a kind of river. In normal everyday German, however, people usually say 'Fluss' or 'Bach'. 'Creek' is mainly appropriate when describing a place or landscape in English-speaking countries.
