A music genre that includes rap music with German-language lyrics. It is a subculture of hip-hop in the German-speaking world.

Typical verbs are 'hören' (to listen to), 'machen' (to make), or 'feiern' (to celebrate/really like). The word is also often used as the first part of new compounds, e.g. 'die Deutschrap-Szene' (the German rap scene) or 'ein Deutschrap-Künstler' (a German rap artist).

'der Rap' and 'der Deutschrap' both refer to music with rhythmically spoken lyrics over a beat. 'Rap' is the general term and can mean music in any language. 'Deutschrap' is a specific form of rap with German lyrics. The words can be confused because German rap is always rap. But not all rap is German rap. If the language does not matter, 'Rap' is enough. If you specifically mean rap in German, 'Deutschrap' is more precise.
