'Doppelbett' (double bed) consists of 'Doppel-' (double) and 'Bett' (bed). Here, the component 'Doppel-' indicates two sleeping places, but it does not say whether the bed has one or two mattresses.

When booking hotels
When booking a hotel, 'ein Zimmer mit Doppelbett buchen' (to book a room with a double bed) is a typical collocation. With 'mit Doppelbett' (with a double bed), you describe the room feature you want.

Location and direction
