The adjective 'dortig' (local/there) is derived from the adverb 'dort' (there). The ending '-ig' turns a place into a property that refers to that place.
Wir besuchten das Schloss und den dortigen Park.
We visited the castle and the park there.
'Dortig' (local/there) is used almost exclusively before a noun (attributively). It cannot stand alone at the end of a sentence. You say 'die dortige Kirche' (the church there / the local church), but not 'Die Kirche ist dortig.'
Er informierte sich über die dortigen Arbeitsbedingungen.
He gathered information about the working conditions there.
This word belongs more to written or formal language, for example in reports, news, or travel guides. In everyday speech, people would often use a paraphrase like '... von dort' (... from there) or '... das/die/der dort ist' (... that is there).
Die Reisegruppe traf sich mit dem dortigen Bürgermeister.
The tour group met with the local mayor.

'dort' and 'dortig' both refer to a place that is not here or has been mentioned before. The most important difference is the part of speech: 'dort' is an adverb and stands on its own in a sentence, for example as an answer to the question 'Wo?' (where?). 'dortig' is an adjective and comes before a noun, for example 'die dortige Schule' (the local school there) or 'die dortigen Mitarbeiter' (the employees there). Learners may confuse the words because both point to the same place. In practice: if you just mean the place, use 'dort'. If you are describing a person or thing from that place, 'dortig' fits better.
Die dortige Schule hat morgen einen Elternabend.
The local school there has a parents’ evening tomorrow.
Nach dem Essen warten wir dort auf unsere Freunde.
After the meal, we’ll wait for our friends there.
