Expresses that something applies just as little as something mentioned previously. It is used to repeat or strengthen a negation.
example
Ich habe keine Lust auf Kino, und auf eine Party habe ich ebensowenig Lust.
I don't feel like going to the movies, and I feel just as little like going to a party.
Usage tips
Word composition
The adverb is made up of three parts: 'eben' (exactly), 'so' (so/as), and 'wenig' (little). So it literally means 'exactly as little' and connects a negative statement with another one.
EXAMPLE
Er hat wenig Zeit und ebensowenig Geduld für solche Diskussionen.
He has little time and just as little patience for such discussions.
Word order with inversion
When 'ebensowenig' (just as little) stands at the beginning of a sentence, the verb follows in second position and then the subject comes after it (inversion). This structure is typical for adding a second negation.
EXAMPLE
Sie kann nicht schwimmen. Ebensowenig kann ihr Bruder Rad fahren.
She can't swim. Just as little can her brother ride a bike.
Written together or separately
According to the new German spelling rules, you can also write 'ebensowenig' separately: 'ebenso wenig'. Both spellings are correct and have the same meaning.
EXAMPLE
Er interessiert sich nicht für Sport und ebenso wenig für Politik.
He is not interested in sports and just as little in politics.

ebensowenig vs ebenfalls
likewise
'ebenfalls' and 'ebensowenig' look similar, and both refer to something that was mentioned before. The important difference is the direction of the statement: 'ebenfalls' confirms something positively and means roughly 'also' or 'likewise'. 'ebensowenig' belongs with a negation and means that something is not true in the same way. They are easy to confuse because both begin with 'eben-' and express comparisons. Pay attention to the statement before it: if it is positive, 'ebenfalls' often fits. If it is negative, 'ebensowenig' fits.
ebensowenig
Maria mag keinen Fisch, und Fleisch isst sie ebensowenig.
Maria doesn't like fish, and she doesn't eat meat either.
ebenfalls
Das Team braucht für das Projekt ebenfalls genaue Zahlen.
The team also needs exact figures for the project.
