'Die Aufnahme' and 'die Entlassung' are often opposites in institutions. 'Aufnahme' means that someone officially enters an institution, for example a hospital. 'Entlassung' means that this person is officially allowed or required to leave again. The difference is especially clear in a hospital: with admission, the stay begins; with release, it ends.
