'Die Kündigung' (termination / notice) is the noun corresponding to the verb 'kündigen' (to terminate / to give notice). The ending '-ung' is very commonly used to make a feminine noun from a verb that describes the action or its result.
Die Kündigung des alten Vertrags war notwendig.
The termination of the old contract was necessary.
In a work context, an employee can 'seine Kündigung einreichen' (submit their notice) or 'seine Kündigung geben' (give notice). An employer 'spricht eine Kündigung aus' (issues a termination). Both parties can 'eine Kündigung erhalten' or 'bekommen' (receive a termination notice).
Der Chef hat ihm gestern die Kündigung ausgesprochen.

To specify what is being ended, German often uses the genitive or the preposition 'von' (of / from). For example: 'die Kündigung des Mietvertrags' (the termination of the rental agreement) or 'die Kündigung von meinem Fitnessstudio-Abo' (the cancellation of my gym membership).
Ich muss die Kündigung meines Zeitungsabonnements noch abschicken.

The verb often reveals whether the action or the document is meant. Verbs like 'schreiben' (to write), 'unterschreiben' (to sign), or 'übergeben' (to hand over) refer to the written document. Verbs like 'aussprechen' (to issue) or 'erfolgen' (to take place) refer to the legal act.

dissolution / solution / resolution
Auflösung and Kündigung can both relate to the end of a contract. A Kündigung is the unilateral declaration or letter with which one party announces the end, while Auflösung refers more to the formal termination or the terminated state of the contract. Kündigung fits the letter, while Auflösung fits the process or state.
Der Mieter schickte dem Vermieter gestern seine Kündigung.
The tenant sent the landlord his notice of termination yesterday.
Nach der Auflösung des Vertrags mussten beide Seiten ihre Aufgaben beenden.
After the dissolution of the contract, both sides had to stop carrying out their duties.
