'die Aufklärung' and 'die Erleuchtung' can be confused because both can be connected with knowledge or understanding. However, they mean very different things. 'die Aufklärung' means that someone is informed, that a situation is clarified, or that a historical era is meant. 'die Erleuchtung' is more about a sudden, deep realization or, in a religious sense, a special spiritual state. So in everyday language, you do not say 'Erleuchtung' when the police solve a case or when someone receives information. 'Aufklärung' fits there. 'Erleuchtung' fits when someone suddenly understands something important or when the topic is spirituality.
