Use only as a noun
'Der Favorit' (the favorite) is always a noun in German and is not used as an adjective before another noun. To express that something is preferred, German often uses compounds with 'Lieblings-' instead.
EXAMPLE
Diese Band ist mein Favorit.
This band is my favorite.
Context: competition
In sports or elections, 'Favorit' is often used with the preposition 'auf' and the accusative to name the prize or title. Typical phrases also include 'als Favorit gelten' (to be considered the favorite) or 'als Favorit ins Rennen gehen' (to enter the race as the favorite).

Die Mannschaft ist der klare Favorit auf den Meistertitel.
The team is the clear favorite for the championship title.
Personal preference
When it is about a personal preference, 'Favorit' often appears with a possessive pronoun like 'mein' (my) or 'dein' (your). The adjectives 'absolut' (absolute) or 'persönlich' (personal) are often added for emphasis.

'der Link' and 'der Favorit' can be connected on the internet, but they are not the same thing. A 'Link' is a reference that you click and that leads to a webpage or file. A 'Favorit' in a browser is a saved link that you want to open again quickly later. Learners may confuse the words because a favorite / bookmark can technically also be a link. But not every link is a favorite. Only when you save it in the browser does it become a favorite.
