In grammar, the grammatical gender of a noun, which in languages such as German can be masculine, feminine, or neuter.

'die Art' and 'das Genus' can easily be confused in biology because both are levels in the classification of living organisms. However, they do not mean the same thing. 'die Art' is a smaller, more specific group. 'das Genus' is one level above it and can include several species. So the important thing is the order: several species can belong to one genus. In addition, 'das Genus' has another meaning in grammar: the grammatical gender of a noun.
Die Forscher haben das Genus bestimmt, bevor sie die genaue Art benannt haben.
