In typical usage, however, there is an important difference: here, 'beschrieben' refers to a surface with text or symbols on it, for example a sheet of paper. 'geschildert' refers to a situation, event, or person that has been vividly narrated or presented. Learners may confuse the words because both come from verbs connected with verbal description. When it is about writing on paper, 'beschrieben' fits. When it is about a narrated description, 'geschildert' fits.
