'Gewappnet' (prepared/armed) comes from the old verb 'wappnen' (to arm/equip), which means "to equip with weapons or armor." Today it is mostly used metaphorically for "well prepared."

'Gewappnet' (prepared) is almost always used with the verb 'sein' (to be). The challenge one is prepared for is expressed with the prepositions 'für' (for) or 'gegen' (against) + accusative.

'bereit' and 'gewappnet' both describe a form of preparation. 'bereit' is the normal word when someone can or wants to start. It can be about a simple task, an appointment, or a decision. 'gewappnet' is used more for difficulties, dangers, or challenges. It sounds stronger: you do not just have the desire or time, but also enough knowledge, strength, equipment, or inner resilience. The words can be confused because both can mean 'prepared'. 'bereit' is more general; 'gewappnet' fits when something could become difficult.
