Gotik vs Renaissance

Renaissance / revival

'Renaissance' and 'Gotik' are both important periods of European art and architecture. They can be confused because they are partly close to each other in time, and both often come up in museums, churches, or art classes. 'Gotik' is older and is especially recognizable by tall churches, pointed arches, and large windows. 'Renaissance' comes later and is strongly shaped by the rediscovery of antiquity. In practical terms: for medieval cathedrals, 'Gotik' often fits; for art and science of the Early Modern period, 'Renaissance' is more likely.
