Usage tips
Separable verb
'Hineinschauen' (to look inside) consists of 'hinein' (inward) and 'schauen' (to look) and is separable. In a main clause, 'hinein' goes at the end of the clause; in a subordinate clause, the verb stays together. With 'zu', 'zu' goes between the two parts.

Sie blieb vor der Tür stehen, weil sie hineinschaute.
She stopped outside the door because she was looking inside.

Direction with accusative
When 'hineinschauen' (to look inside) describes looking into an object or room, it is often used with 'in' (into) followed by the accusative. The preposition indicates that the gaze is directed inward.

Visits with 'bei'
