'die Geschichte' and 'die Historie' can both mean the past or the development of something. 'Geschichte' is the normal and very broad word, also for the school subject or the history of humanity. 'Historie' sounds more formal and is often used when you mean the background or development of a person, company, or thing. The words can be confused because they overlap strongly in this meaning. In everyday language, 'Geschichte' usually sounds more natural; 'Historie' fits better in factual or elevated texts.
