'das Hotel' and 'die Unterkunft' both have to do with staying overnight while traveling. A hotel is a specific type of accommodation: a business with rooms for payment, often with services such as breakfast or a reception desk. 'Unterkunft' is more general. It can be a hotel, but also a vacation apartment, a room with friends, or a hostel. Learners may confuse the words because you can stay overnight in both. If the type of place is important and it really is a hotel business, you say 'Hotel'. If you mean a place to sleep in general, 'Unterkunft' is more natural.
