An orange, elongated root vegetable that is eaten raw or cooked. In many regions it is also known as 'Möhre' (carrot) or 'Mohrrübe' (carrot).

In recipes or when shopping, the indefinite form 'eine Karotte' (a carrot) or the plural 'Karotten' (carrots) is often used. People rarely talk about a specific, single carrot.

Both words refer to the same orange root vegetable. The choice mainly depends on regional and personal language use: in some areas, „Karotte“ is more common, while in others „Möhre“ is preferred. For this vegetable, both words are therefore natural and correct in present-day German.
