'der Überblick' and 'das Kompendium' both have to do with summarized knowledge about a topic. A compendium, on the other hand, is a book or text that presents a topic concisely but as completely as possible. In everyday language, people are more likely to say 'Überblick' when they want to get oriented quickly. 'Kompendium' fits better with learning, academic study, or specialized knowledge.
