'der Führer' and 'das Handbuch' can both be a book with information. In this sense, 'Führer' usually means a guidebook, or a specialized guide with tips about places, restaurants, or similar topics. 'Handbuch' is more suitable for devices, software, or a specialist field. It explains how something works, or collects important knowledge. The words can be confused because both help you look things up. For travel, you would more likely say 'Führer', or more specifically 'Reiseführer' (travel guide); for operation and specialist knowledge, 'Handbuch' is more natural.
