'Reise' and 'Kurzurlaub' can both mean that you go to another place for a period of time. 'Reise' is the more general word. It can be private or work-related, short or long. 'Kurzurlaub' is more specific: it is a short trip for relaxation, usually only for a few days. The words can be confused because a Kurzurlaub can always also be a Reise. But not every Reise is a Kurzurlaub. For work, long vacations, or a visit that does not feel like a vacation, 'Reise' fits better. For a free weekend spent relaxing, 'Kurzurlaub' sounds more natural.
