A form of financing in which you rent an object (e.g., a car or a machine) for a fixed period of time instead of buying it. You pay a monthly installment but do not become the owner.

'der Kauf' and 'das Leasing' both have to do with using things in exchange for money, for example with cars. The important difference is ownership. With a purchase, you pay for something and it belongs to you afterward. With leasing, you pay money regularly and are allowed to use the object for a certain period of time, but you normally do not become the owner. The words can be confused because in both cases you pay money and can use the object. If it is about ownership, 'Kauf' is the right choice. If it is about temporary use with monthly installments, 'Leasing' is the right choice.
