In 'jemandem etwas mailen' (to email someone something), the person is in the dative case and the content being sent is in the accusative case. You can therefore use both directly with the verb.
Ich maile dir den Bericht heute Nachmittag.
I'll email you the report this afternoon.
You can also specify the recipient using 'an' (to) followed by the accusative case. This pattern is especially useful when specifying an address, a department, or several recipients.
Bitte mailen Sie die Rechnung an unsere Buchhaltung.
Please email the invoice to our accounting department.
'Mailen' (to email) is especially common in everyday and office communication. It works well for making quick arrangements and sending personal messages.
Wir können morgen telefonieren oder einfach kurz mailen.
We can talk on the phone tomorrow or just email briefly.
