Markgraf and Landgraf are historical noble titles. A Markgraf ruled over a Mark, that is, a border region of the realm, and typically ranked between a count and a duke. A Landgraf, by contrast, was a prince directly subordinate to the emperor, with a rank roughly equivalent to that of a duke.
