Meridian vs Äquator

equator

'der Äquator' and 'der Meridian' are both imaginary lines on the Earth and appear in geography. That is why they can easily be confused. The equator runs all the way around the Earth and divides it into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. A meridian, by contrast, runs from pole to pole and is part of geographic longitude. Put simply: the equator goes horizontally around the Earth; a meridian goes from north to south.
