The word is made up of 'nach' (after/again) and 'Druck' (pressure/printing). This combination explains both meanings: additional 'Druck' (pressure) in a demand (emphasis) and a repeated 'Druck' (printing) of a book (new edition).

Both words can refer to a new edition of a book that has already been published. A Nachdruck is unchanged in content, whereas a Neuauflage may also be revised or expanded. Use Nachdruck for the same version and Neuauflage when the work appears in a new version.

Because of the high demand, an unchanged reprint of the novel was published.
