An effect that occurs or continues after the actual cause has ended. Aftereffects can be felt both in the short term and in the long term.

A Folge is generally a result or consequence of a cause. A Nachwirkung is an effect that occurs only later or continues after the cause has ended. When this continued effect over time is important, Nachwirkung is the better choice.
