'die Mannschaft' and 'die Nationalelf' can both mean a team in sports. 'Mannschaft' is general and can be used for many sports and clubs. 'Nationalelf' is much more specific: it means a country's national football team. The word is used especially in football, even though it does not always refer to exactly eleven players. The words can be confused because a 'Nationalelf' is also a 'Mannschaft'. But not every 'Mannschaft' is a 'Nationalelf'. For a normal club team, you say 'Mannschaft'; for a country's football team, 'Nationalelf' fits.
