'Nahelegen' (to recommend/suggest) is a separable verb. The prefix 'nahe-' comes at the end in main clauses. In the infinitive with 'zu', 'zu' comes between the prefix and the verb.

When you recommend something to someone, the verb needs a person in the dative and a thing in the accusative. The structure is: subject + legt + someone (dative) + something (accusative) + nahe.

In the meaning 'to make plausible', the verb is often combined with abstract nouns such as 'Verdacht' (suspicion), 'Schluss' (conclusion), or 'Vermutung' (assumption).
