The word is made up of the verb 'nennen' (to name/mention) and the adjective 'wert' (worth). Something that is 'nennenswert' (noteworthy) is therefore worth naming or mentioning.

This adjective is very often used in negative sentences to express that something was insignificant or not worth mentioning. Typical phrases are 'keine nennenswerten Probleme' (no noteworthy problems) or 'nichts Nennenswertes' (nothing noteworthy).
