Potatoes cut into sticks and deep-fried in fat or baked in the oven, eaten as a side dish or as a dish on their own. It is the short form of 'Pommes frites' (French fries).
Ich hätte gern eine Currywurst mit Pommes und Mayo.

'Pommes' is the colloquial short form of the French term 'pommes frites' (fried potatoes). In German, both forms are used.
Im Imbiss bestelle ich einfach „eine Portion Pommes“.

The word 'Pommes' (fries) is almost always used as a plural word, even when you mean just one portion. The verb therefore also stands in the plural.

A very typical order in Germany is 'Pommes rot-weiß' (fries red-white). This means you want the fries with ketchup (red) and mayonnaise (white).
