Prämisse vs Aussage

statement

'die Aussage' and 'die Prämisse' can both appear in an argument or in logic. A statement communicates something or states something. A premise is more specific: it is a statement or assumption on which further reasoning is based. They can be confused because a premise is often formulated like a normal statement. The important thing is the function: if a sentence simply claims something, it is 'eine Aussage' (a statement). If that sentence serves as the basis for a conclusion, it is 'eine Prämisse' (a premise).

Visual example for Aussage
Prämisse

Die Prämisse der Planung war, dass alle Mitarbeiter am Montag im Büro sind.

The premise of the planning was that all employees would be in the office on Monday.

Aussage

Die Aussage des Nachbarn passt nicht zu dem, was die Polizei gesehen hat.

The neighbor's statement does not match what the police saw.
