In biology, especially in microbiology or botany, a subgroup within a species that differs from other groups through certain hereditary characteristics. The term is a technical alternative to 'Rasse' (race/breed) in this context.

Learners may confuse the words because both describe groups within nature. In everyday language, people almost always say 'Art'. 'Race' only fits in specialized scientific texts.
