'der Fundamentalist' and 'der Reformer' are clear opposites. A fundamentalist holds on very strictly to old rules, doctrines, or beliefs and usually rejects changes. A reformer wants to change and improve an existing system. The difference, then, lies in their attitude toward change: the fundamentalist protects the old without compromise, while the reformer looks for new solutions.
