sacristy
A side room in a church where liturgical vestments and objects are kept and where the priest prepares for the service.
Der Priester zog sich vor der Messe in der Sakristei um.
The priest changed in the sacristy before Mass.
The word comes from the Latin 'sacristia', which is derived from 'sacer' (holy). This explains its meaning as a special room in a church intended for the church service.
Die wertvollen liturgischen Geräte werden sicher in der Sakristei verwahrt.
The valuable liturgical objects are kept safely in the sacristy.
This word is used almost exclusively in the context of Christian churches. You will not find it in any other context.

Pay attention to the difference with the preposition 'in': 'in der Sakristei' (in the sacristy, dative) describes a location, while 'in die Sakristei' (into the sacristy, accusative) expresses movement toward it.
Der Küster ist in der Sakristei.
The sacristan is in the sacristy.
