Sarkasmus vs Humor

humor

'der Humor' and 'der Sarkasmus' both have to do with laughter or witty remarks. The important difference lies in the tone. 'Humor' is usually something positive: you recognize something funny or make others laugh. 'Sarkasmus' is sharper and can come across as hurtful, because you often say the opposite of what you mean and mock someone or something. Learners may confuse the words because sarcasm can also be funny. But not all humor is sarcasm. If a remark is friendly or light, 'Humor' fits better. If it is biting or mocking, 'Sarkasmus' is more precise.
