Intransitive use
'Schnellen' (to dart / soar) is usually used without a direct object: the subject moves by itself suddenly or rises sharply. A person or thing is therefore not normally directly 'geschnellt' (darted / soared).
EXAMPLE

The perfect tense with sein
When 'schnellen' (to dart) describes a sudden movement in the perfect tense, it is used with 'sein' (to be). The participle appears at the end of the sentence.
