'Diskriminierung' is the more general term and can refer to different characteristics, for example origin, religion, age, or gender. 'Sexismus' is a specific form of it: it is about disadvantage, prejudice, or devaluation because of gender. The words can be confused because sexism can always be connected with discrimination. If gender is the reason, 'Sexismus' is more precise. If the reason is more general or something else, 'Diskriminierung' fits better.
