Stollen vs Strecke

route / distance

'die Strecke' and 'der Stollen' can both have to do with a path or section, but they are used in very different situations. 'die Strecke' generally means a section of a path, road, railway line, or similar connection. 'der Stollen' means an underground tunnel or gallery in a mine. The words can only be close in meaning in special contexts, for example when talking about routes underground. Most of the time, 'Strecke' is much more general, while 'Stollen' clearly belongs to mining or underground passages.
