The word is a compound of 'die Tat' (deed, action) and 'kräftig' (strong). A 'tatkräftige' (energetic/proactive) person is therefore someone who is “strong in action” and actively gets things done.

'Tatkräftig' (energetic/proactive) is very often used in connection with help and support. Typical phrases are 'tatkräftige Hilfe' (energetic help) and 'tatkräftige Unterstützung' (active support).

In practice: 'aktiv' fits participation and regular activity, while 'tatkräftig' fits especially when someone helps with energy or solves a problem.
