Usage tips
Word structure
The word is a compound of 'die Tat' (deed, action) and 'kräftig' (strong). A 'tatkräftige' (energetic/proactive) person is therefore someone who is “strong in action” and actively gets things done.
EXAMPLE
Er ist ein tatkräftiger Mitarbeiter, der immer neue Projekte anstößt.
He is a proactive employee who always initiates new projects.
Typical collocations
'Tatkräftig' (energetic/proactive) is very often used in connection with help and support. Typical phrases are 'tatkräftige Hilfe' (energetic help) and 'tatkräftige Unterstützung' (active support).
EXAMPLE
Ohne die tatkräftige Unterstützung meiner Kollegen hätte ich das nicht geschafft.
Without the active support of my colleagues, I would not have managed it.
Use as an adverb
As an adverb, 'tatkräftig' (energetically/proactively) describes how someone acts or helps. It is then often used with verbs such as 'anpacken' (to tackle), 'helfen' (to help), or 'unterstützen' (to support).
EXAMPLE
Alle haben tatkräftig mitgeholfen, den Garten aufzuräumen.
Everyone actively helped clean up the garden.

tatkräftig vs aktiv
active
'aktiv' and 'tatkräftig' both describe people who are not passive. 'aktiv' is more general: someone takes part, moves around a lot, or is committed to something. 'tatkräftig' sounds stronger and more positive. It describes a person who tackles things energetically and really gets things done. Learners may confuse the words because both have to do with action. In practice: 'aktiv' fits participation and regular activity, while 'tatkräftig' fits especially when someone helps with energy or solves a problem.
tatkräftig
Nach dem Sturm halfen die Nachbarn tatkräftig beim Aufräumen.
After the storm, the neighbors helped energetically with the cleanup.
aktiv
Im Deutschkurs sind wir sehr aktiv, weil wir viel sprechen und Fragen stellen.
In our German course, we are very active because we speak a lot and ask questions.
