'Teilweise' (partly) is made up of 'der Teil' (the part) and the ending '-weise'. It literally means 'in the manner of a part'. The ending '-weise' often forms adverbs from nouns.

Position in the sentence
As an adverb, 'teilweise' (partly) can stand flexibly in the sentence. At the beginning of the sentence (position 1), the verb moves to position 2. In the middle of the sentence, it usually stands before the word it describes more closely.
