In normal German, 'These' is much more common for this, especially in discussions, texts, and academic arguments. 'Thesis' can also be used this way, but very often means an academic final paper, such as a bachelor's or master's thesis. This is why learners can easily confuse the words: a 'These' is usually a statement, while a 'Thesis' is often the whole paper.
