veranschlagen vs vorsehen

to provide for / beware

'vorsehen' and 'veranschlagen' both have to do with planning in advance. 'vorsehen' is more general: you plan something for a purpose, a person, or a point in time. 'veranschlagen' is more specific when you estimate and set costs, time, or quantities in advance. It is often used with projects, construction, money, or planning. The words can be confused because both occur in plans. For example, you can 'einen Raum für eine Besprechung vorsehen' (provide for / plan a room for a meeting), but 'zwei Stunden' or '500 Euro für eine Arbeit veranschlagen' (estimate two hours or 500 euros for a job).
