To make or persuade someone to do something unwise, wrong, or immoral that he or she would otherwise not have agreed to.
example
Lass dich nicht von seinen schönen Worten zu einer unüberlegten Entscheidung verleiten.
Don't let his pretty words entice you into making a rash decision.
Usage tips
Word structure
The verb consists of the inseparable prefix 'ver-' and the verb 'leiten' (to lead). 'Verleiten' (to entice) therefore literally means to lead someone in the wrong direction or onto the wrong path.
EXAMPLE
Die Werbung verleitet Menschen oft zu unnötigen Käufen.
Advertising often entices people into making unnecessary purchases.
Fixed sentence structure
The structure is fixed: you entice 'jemanden' (someone, accusative) 'zu etwas' (into/to something, dative). The person being enticed is always in the accusative.
EXAMPLE
Er hat mich zu einem Stück Kuchen verleitet, obwohl ich auf Diät bin.
He enticed me into having a piece of cake, even though I'm on a diet.
Typical usage
The reflexive form 'sich verleiten lassen' (to let oneself be enticed) is used very frequently. It expresses that you gave in to pressure or temptation.
EXAMPLE
Ich habe mich von dem günstigen Preis zum Kauf verleiten lassen.
I let myself be enticed into buying it by the low price.

verleiten vs versuchen
to try / taste
'versuchen' and 'verleiten' can both mean that someone is brought to do something wrong or unwise. 'verleiten' is the normal and clear word for this: someone or something gets a person to do something they perhaps should not do. 'versuchen' also has this meaning, but it sounds elevated and somewhat old-fashioned. In everyday language, 'versuchen' is used much more often in the sense of 'to try', not in the sense of 'to lead into temptation'. When it is about bad influences or an unwise decision, 'verleiten' is usually more precise.
verleiten
Die Werbung hat mich dazu verleitet, ein neues Handy zu kaufen.
The advertisement enticed me into buying a new phone.
versuchen
Der teure Ring im Schaufenster versuchte sie, obwohl sie sparen wollte.
The expensive ring in the shop window tempted her, even though she wanted to save money.
