'Verreisen' (to travel) is an inseparable verb. The prefix 'ver-' remains firmly attached to the verb 'reisen' (to travel) in all conjugated forms and sentence positions.

Since 'verreisen' (to travel) describes movement and a change of location, the perfect tense is always formed with the auxiliary verb 'sein' (to be). A common mistake is using 'haben' (to have).

'Verreisen' (to travel) is often combined with adverbs that describe the purpose or duration of the trip. Reisen generally refers to traveling and can emphasize the destination or the course of the journey. Verreisen also means to take a trip, but it emphasizes leaving one's place of residence and being away for a while. In the same situation, therefore, both words may be appropriate.

Next week, I will be away on business and not at home.
Nächste Woche reise ich beruflich nach Köln.
