'die Innenstadt' and 'der Vorort' are opposites as places in and around a city. 'Die Innenstadt' is the center, where there are often many shops, offices, and important facilities. 'Der Vorort' is on the edge of a larger city or directly next to it and is often more residential in character. When talking about going into the center, 'Innenstadt' fits. When talking about quieter living on the outskirts, 'Vorort' is more appropriate.
