Vorort and Vorstadt both refer to residential areas on the outskirts of a larger city. Vorort often means a separate smaller town or settlement connected to the city center, whereas Vorstadt focuses more on the urban area at the edge of the city. Use Vorort when the separate municipality matters; for a district on the outskirts, Vorstadt is more appropriate.
