'das Imperium' and 'die Weltmacht' both describe very great power and strong influence. An 'Imperium' is often a large empire with many territories and peoples, ruled by a central power. It can also be used figuratively for a huge corporation. A 'Weltmacht', on the other hand, is a state that has a lot of political, economic, or military influence worldwide. The words can be confused because an empire can often be a world power. But 'Imperium' describes more the form or size of an empire or corporation, while 'Weltmacht' describes the role of a state in the world.
