Word formation
'Wöchentlich' (weekly) is derived from 'die Woche' (the week) with the ending '-lich' (-ly/-ly-like). This pattern is also found with other time expressions: 'Tag' (day) → 'täglich' (daily), 'Monat' (month) → 'monatlich' (monthly), 'Jahr' (year) → 'jährlich' (yearly/annually).

Adverb and adjective
'Wöchentlich' (weekly) can describe an action as an adverb or stand before a noun as an adjective. As an adjective, it must be declined.

Sentence position
As an adverb of time, 'wöchentlich' (weekly) often comes directly after the conjugated verb. However, it can also stand in position 1 to emphasize the frequency; then the verb follows directly after it.
