Separable verb
'Anbrüllen' (to yell at) consists of the prefix 'an-' and the verb 'brüllen' (to yell) and is separated in a main clause. In a subordinate clause, it stays together; in the infinitive with 'zu', 'zu' comes between the prefix and the verb.
EXAMPLE
Der Trainer brüllte den Spieler wegen seines Fehlers an.
The coach yelled at the player because of his mistake.
Alle waren erschrocken, weil die Nachbarin plötzlich jemanden anbrüllte.
Everyone was startled because the neighbor suddenly yelled at someone.

Accusative construction
The person whom 'anbrüllen' (to yell at) is directed at normally appears in the accusative. The verb is often used with a direct reference to a person.
